What is a michelada you might ask? Well, It is the new cerveza censation sweeping across the border. While there might be several variations on the exact makeup of the ingredients in a michelada, there is one company in The Rio Grande Valley in South Texas that has put together just the right amounts that will have your taste buds jumping for joy. In fact, Habagallo Foods, Inc. of Mission Texas is currently the only company in the United States that markets a pre-mix for the michelada. Beer lovers now have a very new and unique way of enjoying a frosty one. The michelada is made up of a salt-rimmed beer glass or mug, half way with ice, ¾ the way up with your favorite beer and then topped off with Habagallo Brand Michelada Mix. The Mix is a special blend of tomato cocktail juice, limejuice, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt and a few secret spices to give it that extra punch. The origin of the michelada dates back to the early 40's in Mexico. The name translates roughly into "my cold brewski". But, it has evolved over time for the better.
